What's Your Mission

Jesus said to the young rich man who asked him what he needed to do to enter the kingdom (consciousness) of heaven, "Go, sell all that thou hast and give give to the poor, and come follow me." The rich man went away, but I'd like to think that years later when he retired, he followed Jesus's advice and followed in his footsteps. I know a man who did exactly that, but he wasn't a Christian. He was a Hindu, a wealthy owner of a tea company from Mumbai, India, who sold his business and gave the proceeds to his workers. His name was HRM (Hira Ratan Manek), which means Diamond Ruby Emerald. He truly was a gem of a soul.

After he gave his money away, he followed in the footsteps of Jesus and other masters by devoting his life to saving people from the darkness of ignorance through the light of sungazing or sun yoga. He depended totally on God to provide for his needs as he traveled all over the world, giving lectures, preaching the gospel of sunlightenment (google that). And God used people to help him with his mission. I was one of them. He was a guest in our home, and I and my wife arranged lecture venues and drove him to them. People at his lectures bought his DVD or gave him money for his next plane ticket.

HRM was living the life of a sanyasin, which according to the Hindu philosophy of the stages of life, is the last stage after being a successful householder, which comes after being a student. It's a time of renunciation, selfless service to others, and total dependence on God. One can be of service to others as a student or householder but not as fully as a sanyasin. That takes unconditional love and courage. If everyone did this when they retired instead of living a selfish, boring life, just imagine how wonderful the world would be.

HRM was given his mission to preach sunlightenment by the immortal bodhisattva Babaji, when he traveled to the Himalayas to meet him. But you don't need to travel to the Himalayas to ask Babaji what your mission is. All you need is his image, love, and attunement, and he will whisper it in your inner ear (see The Master Speaks and Be One with the River).

I know three other people who received their mission from Babaji and I am connected to all three. Sunyogi Umashankar, Omraam, and Charles, a man from Michigan whom I met when he was a guest at a World Explorer’s Club huesthouse. Sunyogi Umashankar I recently helped with editing the third edition of his Essence of Sunyoga. Omraam gave flows through me in 2007 and one recently (The Master Speaks). Charles I helped by reviewing his book.

When I asked Babaji what my mission is at 4:00 this morning after finishing this flow, I received two other flows, which I will publish tomorrow and the next day.
