Why I Created This Blog

It all started in the 4th grade with a mean nun who said a few kind words.

It was a simple assignment: a one-paragraph essay about the Holy Spirit. It was given by my 4th grade teacher, Sister Bernice, who was strict and she belong the Order of the Holy Ghost. So I wanted to write something good and said a little prayer to the Holy Spirit to inspire me. That's what the Holy Spirit is good at doing, right? Well, I began writing and it just flowed. I don't think I made a single erasure. I don't remember what I wrote but when I handed it in and Sister Bernice read it, she said, "Come with me; I need to show this to the Mother Superior."

I thought I was in trouble. The Mother Superior, as the principal of the school and chief disciplinarian (she believed yardsticks had a better purpose than measuring distances), was twice as strict as Sister Bernice. I stood in front of the Mother Superior, shaking in my boots, while she read my essay with a frown. But then her face lit up with a smile and she looked down at me and said, "You, my boy, have a gift for writing. Use it wisely."

I discovered that day that God (otherwise known as Source, Spirit, Higher Self, etc.) blessed me with the gift of writing. But many years later, I discovered that God can use me as an instrument to write words that can inspire people to change their life. And most recently, I discovered how I can put myself into a state of flow so that God can write through me. This is the elixir of life, connecting to God, hence the title of this blog. Some people connect through inspired songs, music, art, dance, or the spoken word. I connect through the written word.

The blogs are inspired words from the Source of Life that flowed effortlessly through me just as they did all those years ago in the fourth grade. I pray that they offer you some hope and joy in these troubled times. Feel free to comment on them.
