Seek First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness

To the Gnostics, the word kingdom meant consciousness. The gnostic writers of the Gospel of Matthew in the 25th and 33rd verse of Chapter 6 enjoined us to “not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?... But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." He was saying that life is so much more than material things; our main goal in life should be to seek after and acquire the consciousness of God and his righteousness. If we focus on food, clothes, and other material things, we will never attain God Consciousness. But when we do attain God Consciousness and his righteousness, we will have material things as a bonus.

What is the spiritual meaning of righteousness? According to Mark Hicks of TruthUnity, it means “A state of harmony established in consciousness through the right use of God-given attributes. It leads directly to eternal life. Truth working in consciousness brings forth the perfect salvation of the whole man--Spirit, soul, and body--and righteousness (right relation) is expressed in all his affairs.” Righteousness is a natural state of harmony that is established in your life when you attain God Consciousness. That’s because when you realize that you and everyone and everything in the universe are God, you love everyone and everything. You also are in harmony with the will of God; you’re in the flow of the great stream of evolution and are guided by synchronicities at every step of the way. A righteous person can never lie or be deceived, for only truth can exist in the consciousness of God. Thus, righteousness is established in heart, will, and mind of one who has attained God Consciousness.

For such a person, every endeavor results in good for everyone concerned. Relationships are loving and harmonious, actions flow without resistance, and outcomes are ethical and beneficial for everyone, not just the person. And the good that everyone receives is not just money and material things but also mental, emotional, and spiritual blessings.
