Repent and Change

Q: Can we delete our mistakes as if they never happened?

A: You cannot erase the karmic record of a wrong thought, word, or deed, for it goes out and has far-reaching repercussions. It’s as impossible as trying to recover every drop of spilled milk and put them back in the bottle. However, it’s good to cry over spilled milk. That is, you can atone for your wrong thoughts, words, and deeds (see Attunement and Atonement). First, realize that it was wrong. Then have remorse to the point of tears and the will to change. Jonah preached repentance to the people of Ninevah and they wept and changed their ways. Thus, they were spared their karmic fate. If many people do not repent and change but continue in their evil ways, nature will weep, and there will be floods.

Flood, tornados, earthquakes, tsunamis, plagues, and other natural disasters are nature’s way of returning karma and returning souls who refuse to repent and change to heaven before they’re lost. In heaven, they’re instructed on what they did wrong and how to avoid it when they reembody. They resolve to do better and balance the karma of the past.

Over many lifetimes, a soul can balance their karmic debt through good works and atonement and, by the grace of a guru, their Higher Self, or God (see Good Works and Grace), can attain enlightenment. But as long as they remain in a body and have thoughts and emotions, they can still be tempted and make mistakes. Their clean slate can become marked up with more karmic records. Jesus said, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Watch you thoughts and emotions, and if you give in to temptation, quickly make amends and atone. If you don’t weep and change , some rain will fall in your life. Don’t be sad but rejoice and be glad, for the rain will wash away your karma (see Singin’ in the Rain).
