Reconnect With Spirit Through the Heart

To be born of the spirit or receive the baptism of fire (Holy Spirit) is to realize that you are a spiritual being. As Teilhard de Chardin wrote, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” We are not human beings who occasionally have a spiritual experience. Some people think that spirituality is a hobby or pastime, something to get into. A guy might say about a new love interest, “Oh, she’s into spirituality, but I’m more into politics and humanism.” We are all spiritual beings because God breathed his Spirit into us at the moment of conception. That Spirit was known and felt intimately by us when we were babies. But as we grew, it was gradually covered by layers of the ego.

You can reexperience and reconnect with that Spirit through breath. In Latin, spiritus means breath. In the creation myth, God breathed his Spirit into Adam after he formed him out of clay. This wasn’t just a one-time act of creation. This breathing in or inspiration is at the conception of every creation by an inventor, musician, artist, writer, or you (See Give Birth to Your Baby). God, a Muse, a Master, or your Higher Self enters your subconscious and inspires you with an idea. Your subconscious regulates your breathing so you don’t have to think about it. Thus, it is connected to spirit and inspires.

The way you can reconnect to Spirit is through the breath. When you are in the grips of the ego, experiencing fear, anger, or sadness, your breathing is constricted. To get out of this state, do the first step of clearing and rewiring taught by awarenessnow.com. Take a deep breath, but do it through the heart. David said in Psalm 51:10-13, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Imagine that you’re breathing through the heart, not the heart organ but the heart chakra, a baby-pink 12-petaled lotus flower in the center of your chest. As you slowly breathe in, all your negative thoughts and emotions are sucked into the white-fire core, the jewel in the center of the lotus, to be purified. See them flare up like bugs in a bug zapper. As you slowly breathe out, only pure thoughts and feelings of love, joy, forgiveness, and gratitude are emitted like the fragrance of the petals. Direct them to anyone who may have caused your negative thoughts and feelings. After a few breaths, you are no longer in the grips of the ego. You are in Spirit, inspired. [NOTE: Four hours after I wrote these words, I came across the following validating passage in The Essence of Sun Yoga, a book I'm editing by Sunyogi Umasankar: "We have the capacity to convert disturbing vibrations (thoughts or emotions) into feelings and subtle frequencies that can reach back to the source of the Universe. This transformation happens automatically when we focus our attention while sending the disturbances to our heart-center as they arise."]

Breathing through the heart chakra centers you either when you go down to your lower chakras in base thoughts and feelings or go up to your higher chakras in philosophical arguments. This is true spirituality, something everyone can do and should do to reconnect with the Spirit they knew as babies. As Jesus said, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” You can do it for a moment several times a day in the midst of work plus spend several minutes each day doing the full Three Pillars meditation of The Way for a more intense spiritual experience. Eventually, it becomes your constant state of being as every breath is an inspiration and you are filled with the Holy Spirit in the baptism of fire and are born of the Spirit (See Be Born of the Spirit).
