Life Is a Rollercoaster

Everything in physical existence, in nature, follows the cycle of growth and decay. A seed sprouts in the spring, grows to a mature plant in the summer, then bears fruit in the fall and decays and dies in the winter. Some plants and insects live for less than a year or a season. Some plants and animals live for many years and many cycles of seasons, but eventually everything dies. In our lives, there are cycles within cycles. We can begin and end several relationships, jobs, and adventures over the course of our lives.

We can look at thess cycles of growth and decay with fear and trepidation or anticipation and joy. What determines how we will feel? Consider two people, John and Jane, who go on a rollercoaster ride. John has never been on a rollercoaster and is terrified. He imagines that the rollercoaster will go flying off the tracks. Jane, however, is thrilled but not terrified for she knows the rollercoaster will stay on its tracks no matter the twists and turns and topsy turvy path. She has faith in the maker of the rollercoaster. John doesn't.

God created your life as a rollercoaster. You begin life slowly through childhood and adolescence, gradually maturing and learning, gaining experience through trial and error till you finally reached the first peak of adulthood. Then things get exciting with the ups and downs of marriage, parenthood, home ownership, career, illness, higher education, and so on. Finally, you come to the last downhill stretch of retirement and breath a sigh of relief. The ride is over and you reflect on all the fun you had because you had faith that you would stay on track.

So, the next time life throws you a curve or you feel down, just go with the flow and know that things will eventually straighten out and will soon be looking up. Have faith and have fun.
