Don't Eat That Bird

Last night, I dreamt that I and my departed father were waiting for a bus and eating food. One of the delicacies was a live sweet-tasting bird in a transparent cylindrical container. I looked over at my father and saw that he had eaten his bird, as only bones remained. But I didn't have the heart to eat mine, a beautiful yellow canary. So I opened my container and set it free. As I did so, the bird flew away, singing a happy tune. I felt one with the bird and went skipping down the sidewalk with my arms waving. When I returned to the bus stop, my father was no longer there. The bus had come and gone.

When I awoke, I meditated on the symbolism of the bird and realized that it represented life. My father had to retire at 60 and spent the next 20 years seriously ill because he had consumed his life in food, drink, sex, smoking, and was very passionate. Omraam said in "Golden Rules for Everyday Life," that "He who abandons himself to pleasures, emotions, and passions squanders his capital -- his life -- because all these things have to be paid for... Whereas, if you invest your capital in a heavenly bank, the more you work the stronger you become, because new, purer and more luminous elements continually pour into you to replace those you spend." My father squandered his life, and the bus, illness and death, took him. By releasing and not eating my bird, I missed the bus.

The symbolism of letting my bird go free is giving my life for a higher purpose, investing my energies to do God's will instead of wasting them on my egoic wants and needs. As a result, I am 20 years younger than my biological age and well on my way to enlightenment. Jesus said in Mark 8:34-36, "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (More on this last line tomorrow.)

When you establish a daily habit of communing with God or Higher Self in prayer and meditation, that's another interpretation of releasing the bird, which is like a carrier pigeon. God sends it back with inspiration. You thereby establish a figure-8 flow that becomes stronger with each passing day. That's what I have done with the three-pillars meditation of awarenessnow.com and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpEddc-IJl6113tM7hVg0_Q

The flows are becoming easier and this flow is the second one this morning. If I were to identify with the flows and with this blog and think of them as my thoughts and creative writing, that would cut off the figure-8 flow, and I would no longer receive flows because I would have eaten the bird.

The yellow color of my bird is symbolic of the virtue of wisdom. I had a second dream in which I was wearing a yellow outfit. I have known for years that wisdom is my ray or plume (a future blog will discuss the 7 rays and finding your purpose in life). Some people may have a red cardinal as their life energy and be full of love (artists, actors, and musicians). Others may have a bluebird of action and are engineers and business executives. Whatever color bird you have (See "What Bird Are You?" from April 28), remember to let it go in service to God and others. Don't eat it.
