Every sense can be a doorway into the transcendent state of bliss. The sight of a glorious sunset raises the consciousness and feelings of everyone who gazes upon it. Nicola Tesla was inspired with the vision of AC current when he gazed upon a sunset. Mozart was inspired with one of his best symphonies when he gazed at the sunset. The smell of a rose can transport one to Venus to commune with the beings of love there, as Omraam wrote in The Living Book: Autobiographical Reflections 1. The music of a symphony or choir can also raise us to spiritual heights.
Unfortunately, most people misuse the senses by engaging them in gross sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and feelings. This anchors them to the materials plane of sense consciousness. With very dark objects of senses, such as rock music, tamasic food, and ugliness, they descend into the astral plane.
We can either be a passive recipient of refined objects of senses, surrounding ourselves with beauty or we can be active creators of beauty. Instead of just passively gazing at a beautiful scene, we can paint it and fully experience it and capture it not just on canvas but in our consciousness. The painting will be something we can share with others but the scene becomes part of our consciousness. We can learn to play an instrument or sing so that we can pour our heart and soul into music and be in harmony with the heavenly choir.
Omraam wrote in the same book, "Throughout our lives, wherever we are, even if we are alone at home, we must sing in the choir, see to it that our voice, that is to say all that we emit as thoughts, feelings, desires and emotions, vibrates in harmony with all of nature and with all humanity. God gave us the five senses to not just live in this world but to travel to the higher world. So surround yourself with beauty and create beauty and harmony, and you will become a beautiful soul.
