Be a Grounded Appliance of God's Energy

Omraam said in "The Book of Divine Magic," "Every single one of us has to play the role of a magic wand and draw down purity, light, and harmony from above into this world... The powerhouse is in the sublime, heavenly regions on high, and in order for our lamps to stay alight and all our other inner appliances to continue to function, we must be plugged in to the power line from above."

This quote from Omraam is rich with analogy. He is saying that we should be conductors of divine energy. But not just passive conductors like a tree, lightning rod, or human body that conducts tremendous tremendous voltage from the clouds to earth and may get burnt in the process. Instead, we need to harness the power of heaven through a series of step-down transformers. Omraam spoke of a series of wands, one on each plane of being, from the atmic, linking our spirit to the spirit of God all the way down to physical plane and the wooden stick wand or the hands, which are more often used in conducting God's energy, as in healing.

An important part of any electrical system is that it must be grounded to avoid shock hazard and loss of power. Extending this analogy to our lives, it's important that we ground ourselves in practical work. Even monks, who spend many hours each day in prayer and meditation as conductors of God's energy, work in the fields or the workshop. I once belonged to East Hill Farm, an initiatic school based on the esoteric teachings of George Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff said that an initiate must engage in practical work while doing spiritual work. The members of East Hill Farm meditated while they worked. Gurdjieff's student, Robert DeRopp, told me the same when, as a hippie in 1970, I visited him at his commune in Santa Rosa. He gave me a lecture on the material/spiritual (positive/negative/ground) life while using his bare feet to thresh wheat he had grown and harvested.

Someone who takes an entheogen without preparation, without purifying their wands, is like a lightning rod. They will get burned and not benefit from the experience. A dreamer is like an appliance that's not plugged in. They can't apply God's energy to realize the dream. But an initiate is an appliance who is plugged in and grounded. They can do the greatest good.
