Atunement and Atonement

In any relationship, harmony is important. When we collaborate with one or more persons, we orchestrate our efforts to achieve a common goal. So, we're like singer in a duet or musicians in an orchestra, and when everyone is in harmony, the process and results of collaboration are good. But if someone doesn't like playing second fiddle and tries to upstage first fiddle, there will be discord.

In order to be harmonious, a singer or musician has to have attunement with other singers and players and with the conductor. In relationships, we need to be sensitive and patient enough to listen to what the other person is saying. In listening, you have to have a good ear for tone of voice and a good eye for body language. That takes attunement, using your full attention. Musicians have highly developed hearing and are all eyes on the conductor.

When you consider mankind as a whole, God is our conductor. By God, I don’t mean some anthropomorphic bearded being who exists in some remote heaven. I mean your highest Self who exists within you and throughout the Universe and is the same Self of everyone. When we listen with attunement while doing clearing and rewiring as taught at awarenessnow.com, we can get in harmony with God's will or our Divine plan.

But sometimes, we get out of harmony. When that happens, we need to atone. Atonement is an interesting word. You can think of it as "a tone" such as vibrating in unison with the pure tone of a tuning fork. Or you can think of it as "at one," as in being at one with God or our Divine Self. Webster has a third definition of atonement as "the exemplifying of man's oneness with God." In this definition, you have the sense of unity with all that exist.

In combining the definitions, what is the tuning fork that helps us be at one with a tone? It's our conscience. With atonement or at-one-ment, we are sensitive and listen to the inner voice of our conscience. Sometimes, the voices of our mind or emotions drown out the voice of our conscience. So what we need to do is quiet the mind and heart through awarenessnow.com's three pillars. Never make an important decision without first clearing on it. If someone says, "I need a decision now," tell them, "Let me meditate about it first."

But sometimes, we don't listen to our conscience or misidentify another inner voice for it. When that happens, we usually make mistakes. That's when the common meaning of atonement comes into play, which is "reparation for an offense or injury." The first step of reparation is to forgive yourself and the second step is to ask forgiveness of others who may have been affected. But that’s a topic for another blog.
